L'Alpe di Siusi (Click on pictures to enlarge) L'Alpe di Siusi is one of the beautiful places of the Dolomites, but from the photographic point of view is one of the few areas in Italy that can be on a plane to 1.800/2.200 m and can still make the sunset a warm light and also grazing on the foreground!
The place is well worth a visit, although a note painful as always go to the considerable human presence, including 5-star hotel complete with a heated outdoor pool, modern facilities (including a church-style "contemporary art"), cable cars (many of which are almost useless) and several sites in work that still getting ready to build some kind of comfort. Sincerely
all odds with such a natural beauty, but fortunately this ruin is almost limited to the area around the cable car that leads to Compaccio Alm.
The cable cars are unfortunately scattered 'across the plain, since the ski area in winter, but personally I do not understand how such a place can afford to ski (he speaks one who loves skiing): the area is quite hilly, I think, suffice to say that.
In short, if you visit this place with the mentality of the simple tourist who wants to spend a weekend in nature and have a few channels then no-problem, but if your intention is mainly to take some nice landscape photos, then get ready to find the location from which you can admire the scenery without including cables, pylons and so on.
The place I discovered by his friend Nicholas
(click HERE to see his profile and his gallery) , more passionate about photography, I spent a few pictures on the net. Agree that certainly deserves a visit, so we set a date and the morning of Saturday, May 29 we put on the road. The weather forecast uncertain damage to the weekend, but Monday should be sunny.
We are just on the highway and stop at roadside restaurants already there because of a tremendous flurry: hail slightly and drops of water are really huge, I've never seen a shower with drops so large! You do not see anything because we take a break. When the intensity of the rain falls and we go back on the road shortly after the rain stops completely.
arrive on site around 15, we leave the car at the parking and take the cable car that takes us on the plane. Once in Compaccio remain puzzled by the excessive human presence that I mentioned above, the scenario further, however, is worthwhile, therefore, reassure us and we approach the shelter to stay.
After a short but steep hike, we find the place, let the unnecessary things and we start looking for a nice place to photograph the sunset. The weather, however, does not promise anything good, so more than anything else we look around for the best place for the days to follow.
walk around 'at random and without realizing we have a real torture to ride, with many up / down useless, only then we will account of the madness (and futility) of course we did!
For the sunset of the situation, as we had already guessed, is badly placed, we are in a very discreet, but the sky is overcast, with several dark clouds that threaten us wander around. For some minutes there are rifts in the clouds and we delude ourselves, but soon everything disappears, some photo-memory and we are approaching an exhausting return. We get destroyed at the shelter, eat, take a shower and put us to sleep with the alarm programmed for 4.00, if time permits dawn.
At 4:00 we woke up to the program: the time when the curtain and now we toss and turn in bed and back to sleep outdoors is not seen with his own hand!
too late in the morning when we wake we find the same conditions, with lots of low clouds that quickly bring a thick fog and then continue on their way. Nicholas feels, however, in artistic talent, so we go out looking for some special atmosphere, and given that we will take the opportunity to try some nice location. When we say that a picture is worth a thousand words ...

13 o'clock the sky begins to clear and for the first time we see the sun and blue sky, sin approaching the time of the F1 Grand Prix!
divide us: I retired to a bar to follow my passion, Nicholas decides instead to continue to explore the area.
After the race we find ourselves and we decided to descend by cable car and go up in Siusi with the machine. The road that leads to Compaccio Siusi can only go from 17 to 8, otherwise you need a permit, and in any case you can arrive to the parking lot of Compaccio, unless the hotel or shelter where you are a guest not will issue a temporary permit, in this case you can drive to the hotel (all other roads are still banned, you can only go up to where you live). In bringing
the machine to the shelter and let us do the buns, however, is late, so we decide to stay there in the area for the sunset. The situation is not bad and do some good photos at sunset.
We look beyond the expected: the clouds move very quickly so we try to capture some particular effect with long exposure, using in part the blue hour.
After the creativity we retire for a shower and a short night's sleep, we are again to 4.00 standing for the sunrise. We get ready, go out and take the car to save time (certainly the manager of the refuge have thought that we were there the Slipping away!). We arrive at the appointed place (a rather clean, grassy area with some wooden house typical, fairly "under" the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto, the tops of the most beautiful landscape) and we walk on wet grass, on a really wet (there had noticed it from day one). Slowly the light intensity increases, while around us only the chirping of birds and the gentle breath of wind.
The sky and the clouds are promising, we evaluate various shots and we soaked boots (my feet sinking ankle in an area hidden in the mud and the yellow flowers, Niccolo completely wet shoes and socks!), then look forward. Some cloud begins to be colored in red / purple, but the show does not come, probably the area from which rose the sun was covered by clouds, or simply the place does not lend itself well to the sunrise (we can not know as it will be our first and only dawn on the Seiser Alm), made photograph is that those few who succeed, and then we decide to go back to bed shivering.
We are ready to leave but Nicholas must find that the battery has left in the grass, while the appearance is a sudden and tear hot sun illuminates the area where we are. The scene is really beautiful, with a beautiful lawn illuminated by light and the dark sky with thick clouds. I have already put away the equipment and do not have time to take a picture, but my partner is able to resume the moment with a couple of beautiful photos. The scene seen through the camera is even more beautiful than it seemed to the eye!

After returning to the hut back to bed and slept until 12.
last Monday there's a beautiful sunny day, the flip side, however, dictates that there is a very strong wind chill, paradoxically makes the coldest of days earlier when there was almost always cloudy and some light rain! The wind had reckoned for forecasts announced the passage of Fohn, which is known to be a warm wind, and then we wonder why it is so cold, cold to the point that I must put the K-WAY, not having a jacket with me, as well as Nicholas puts gloves and scarf! A good reason, given that there are about 2 ° C!
In any case we pay the shelter, say hello and we are moving towards a vantage point nearby. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view, finally clear of clouds across the plains and the different mountains, so I take this opportunity to get a good overview of memory.
Near the restaurant there is a vantage point: do not resist the temptation and after 2 days of sandwiches we allow ourselves the luxury of a nice platter of pasta! Then we take the car, back to Compaccio and wait for the sunset. 17:30 When are we set out. We have in mind a place, but while walking Nicholas decided to try to get on an area to see how it is, I follow the main road (my legs are broken and I have a mysterious knee pain), but shortly after I receive a call now that I know well, and do something like this: "We, come here it's beautiful." So I start looking for the place and soon we find ourselves. The area is good, with clear views of the Sassolungo Sassopiatto, there is a meadow lit in the foreground, a few small house and a dirt road that could be included in the composition. Even the sky is promising, with several clouds that come and go quickly. Time to try some composition and the light begins to get warmer and grazing, but the clouds are beginning to be dyed yellow: it is time that we waited for almost 3 days, with the photos below!
Certainly it is the best situation we could find during this output, so we take advantage.
Misfortune, however, dictates that the area where the sun is setting cloud, stopping in mid-sunset and denying the Part of colors, the more reddish / purple. All in all, we are nevertheless satisfied: while it lasted it was a fascinating sunset, and we managed to make some good pictures, so let's go back to the car egreggiamente happy.
However, our photographic output is not over yet! By dawn we going to stop at Lake Garda specifically near the Rock of Manerba, before returning to their homes. Then once we get to drive, eat something in roadside restaurants and reach the place several hours before the sun rises. We climb on the rock first, then seek a place from which to frame the low cliff on which it stands. Our research, however, does not bring results, therefore, given the abundance of time, we decide to move in Sirmione, Lake Garda always. Here we try to take some pictures at night while waiting for the sunrise, with very unsatisfactory results, then look forward.
Dawn gives no particular emotions, sprint however, some photos of remembrance and then finally we can call an exit and return home, waiting for a new place to visit!
