Grignetta
Thursday, November 11 have been with Raf (Raffaele De Marinis) on top of the Grignetta, Sassina of a mountain valley, near Lecco.
E 'was a fantastic experience!
begin the climb when they are around 14.30 and leave the car in the area where there is just a light sprinkling of snow.
The forecast is very uncertain and varies continuously between fog and low clouds, flashes of bright sky and so on. We begin to climb anyway, hoping that we will be in the top high above the clouds / fog, thus having a clear sky.
For a first short pass into a grove, once you get the real climb begins.
Travel time is not very (2 hours for up to an hour and a half to get off), but the path continues steady climb and the slope is not indifferent.
At some points we must be careful where you put your feet in and suddenly there is a chain (of security more than anything else) where you are vulnerable because they cling to the side.
As you climb, the snow, in the section "core" of the trail we had not found, it starts to become abundant, but go on without too many problems because the path has been trodden previously by other hikers.
finally reached the lookout point, just below the summit, where we going to stop for the sunset.
that you can enjoy the view from here is truly fascinating and repays the effort. We
in good time and the sun is still high, so we start waiting to mount the equipment, do test shots, we study the possible compositions and, while we're at, we put ourselves at the foot crampons.
I recently purchased the 6-pointed crampons to wear "for security" and this is your chance to try them.
cold enough, especially for moisture in the air and the blowing wind.
The same wind, however, is doing us a favor by moving a big cloud that had covered the place where the sun was going to go down and mix some 'cards by making the interesting situation and creating atmosphere.
As the sun approaches the light gets more photogenic and we take advantage now.
the last picture you can see the top of Grignetta and the path I walk from there to just to get there: drive the gorge which divides the two cliffs at the top and then pulls us right behind the rock.
The last light of sunset are fantastic, the snow in the foreground it becomes red and also we are enveloped in the magic light. Luck helps us making us find a group of clouds "caught" between the rocks in front of us, too inflamed, making the scene even more spectacular, but everything else is nell'azzurrino wrapped in mist and shadows.
moments are as exciting as short, and soon all disappears.
We remain still for several minutes taking pictures, because even the atmosphere after the sun has dropped its appeal, with the last color in the sky that break the cold tones of the rest of the landscape.
When we are satisfied, we put everything away and prepare to go up the line that divides us from the summit.
With the lights of the dusk we resume the climb: crampons, head lights, ready to be turned on, sticks and go.
This section is really tough and once past the big canyon, looking back I wonder how the hell we were going to fall!
We go right and follow the trail (mostly in the footsteps of those who had already passed in one day) and we get a piece of climbing using chains attached to the rock, since there are no holds neither for nor hands for feet. To say this seems a difficult thing, but really is not anything special, just keep well with your hands, choose carefully where to rest your feet, and hoist himself with the help of just chains.
Once this part, and we are still a few meters to the top!
Here there is the usual cross and a small emergency facility (camp is no exaggeration to call it) made of metal and plywood, empty inside, no cots or seats. We holed up inside to get something to eat while we wait for the darkness falls to photograph the stars.
had finished eating we go out and find a surprise: in the meantime, the sky is cloudy! Provo
a shot to see the conditions, but I understand now that we can say goodbye to the stars. Never mind, because this new situation made it interesting all around the landscape, with the lights of the countries, amplified by the mist below, which make the magic scene. Why delay another chance to star startrail, we take a Fotoricordo (left I right Raf) and then we are dedicated to the beautiful scenery 360 degrees below us.
Sold creativity and batteries (for cold), put everything away and prepare to descend.
The descent in those conditions is the most beautiful, challenging, dangerous and exciting that I made so far in my short experience of the mountain, you feel as privileged when you do something that not everyone does.
Thanks to the legendary RAF for this wonderful experience, it is was truly spectacular!
